submission guidelines

We publish stories with some element of speculation. This includes, but is not limited to: science-fiction, fantasy, horror, mystery, flash-fiction or any melding of these. We prefer stories under 3000 words. We prefer stories that are not pure exposition and have a pleasant balance of narrative and dialogue.

Please make it a separate attachment (.rtf please). We only accept e-mail submissions, in proper manuscript form (if you don't know what that means, there are numerous resources online). Stories may be submitted at any time. We try to respond within one month. The Nautilus Engine now publishes upon acceptance at http://thenautilusengine.blogspot.com/ .

The Nautilus Engine No Longer Pays

When economic conditions allow, we hope to once again be a paying market. Nautilus Engine acceptance of submitted story grants the Nautilus Engine exclusive electronic rights for a three month period. Works will be archived indefinitely, however the author may request that the work be removed from the site (after the original three month period) at their discretion. Author retains ownership and full copyright, but we request that your story not be published elsewhere during the initial three month Nautilus Engine publication period.
